POPIA privacy notice

Only the information needed to run the service.

Last updated 4 September 2026. This notice explains how personal information is handled when someone uses the MOTOLYST website, requests or pays for a service, or supplies vehicle material.

Responsible party

Christopher Botha trading as MOTOLYST AUTOMOTIVE is responsible for the personal information used to provide the service. Privacy requests may be sent to Christopher.hotrod@gmail.com.

Information collected

MOTOLYST may collect a dealership or organisation name, contact name, work email, phone or WhatsApp number, branch or city, business type, monthly vehicle volume, referral code, message, consent record, request time, transaction reference and the vehicle materials later supplied for an accepted job. The on-device photo check does not upload or store selected images.

Why it is used

Information is used to respond to a request, confirm service fit, form and perform a service contract, process or reconcile payment, deliver vehicle assets, prevent misuse, keep required business records and handle support or legal claims. Unrelated marketing is not authorised by a service request.

Lawful handling and marketing

Information is processed only when there is a lawful basis, such as consent, steps requested before a contract, performance of a contract, a legal duty or a legitimate business need that does not override the person’s rights. Unsolicited electronic marketing is not sent merely because a contact appears online; applicable consent and opt-out rules must be followed.

Service providers and payment

Necessary information may be handled by hosting, database, communications and professional service providers acting for MOTOLYST. Yoco independently processes payment credentials under its own privacy terms; MOTOLYST does not receive full card details. Information is not sold.

Vehicle images and people

Clients should avoid submitting images containing unnecessary faces, identity documents, number plates unrelated to the job or private surroundings. The client must have authority to provide all submitted material. Accepted vehicle media is used only for the agreed production, quality-control and delivery purposes unless further written permission is obtained.

Security and transfers

Reasonable access, data-minimisation and service-provider safeguards are used. No internet service can promise absolute security. Where a service provider processes information outside South Africa, MOTOLYST will rely on an applicable legal basis and appropriate protection required by POPIA.

Retention

Unsuccessful or inactive service requests are scheduled for deletion within 12 months unless an earlier lawful request applies. Vehicle working files are retained only as long as reasonably needed for delivery, corrections and agreed records. Contracts, payment and invoice records may be retained longer where tax, accounting or legal duties require it.

Your choices

You may ask for access, correction or deletion; object to certain processing; withdraw consent for future marketing; or complain about how information is handled. Some records may be retained when the law requires it. Contact Christopher.hotrod@gmail.com first; you may also complain to South Africa’s Information Regulator.

Cookies and updates

MOTOLYST does not intentionally use advertising cookies for the current service. Essential hosting or security technology may operate when the site is used. Material privacy changes will be posted here with a new date and will not silently create unrelated uses for information already collected.
